The 2025 Shagger’s Guide to North Myrtle Beach

The Society of Stranders organizes a Mid-Winter Break and Workshop each January. This multi-day event allows shaggers to meet up, have fun, and learn new skills. The 2025 Mid-Winter Break and Workshop will take place January 16-19.

September marks the end of summer, but each year shaggers head to North Myrtle Beach for one last hurrah. Just like the Spring Safari, the SOS Fall Migration is known as one of the biggest parties on the East Coast, and is 10 days of dancing, block parties, entertainment, and much more. Next year’s Fall Migration will take place September 11-21, 2025.

Each year, the Society of Stranders hosts the SOS Spring Safari, which is a 10-day event that is known as the “biggest adult party on the East Coast”. The Spring Safari is full of fun, dancing, a parade, and more! The 2025 Spring Safari will take place April 24-May 4.

The Junior SOS in July is a huge event for shag enthusiasts under the age of 21. This event celebrates these young shaggers for keeping the shag dance tradition alive. The 2025 Junior SOS will take place July 15-20.

The Carolina Beach Music Awards are held every November at the Alabama Theatre at Barefoot Landing. These awards celebrate those who have helped to catapult Beach Music to the success and popularity it has today. See the awards live on stage Sunday, November 9.

Avista Resort in North Myrtle Beach is one of the sponsors of the Society of Stranders, so shaggers are welcome to book their stay at this top-notch property. Though shaggers won’t be spending much of their time at a hotel, it is nice that Avista Resort has tons of great amenities to enjoy. In addition to on-site dining, Avista Resort is also home to a variety of accommodations as well as several water features, a fitness center, Wi-Fi, and more.

Beach Cove Resort is another property that is recommended by the Society of Stranders for SOS events. This oceanfront resort is located just a short drive from Main Street, where all of the shagging action is. This family-friendly resort offers a variety of amenities such as dining, indoor & outdoor water features, and recreational activities.

Located on Main Street in North Myrtle Beach, Fat Harold’s Beach Club is one of the hot spots for shag events. This SOS club is home to two separate loungs, both of which have their own bars, dance floor, and DJs. Of course, shaggers will work up an appetite while dancing the day away, but Fat Harold’s Beach Club has Shag City Grill to take care of hungry dancers.

Duck’s Beach Club is another Main Street joint that provides tons of great entertainment during SOS events. This nightclub and bar & grill boasts three bars, food, and four dance floors for shaggers to enjoy. Duck’s Beach Club hosts DJ nights as well as live entertainment.

Along with being a wonderful place to stay for shag dancing event, OD Beach & Golf Resort is also home to several venues. On property at this resort you can find the Spanish Galleon, the Beach Club, and the OD Café. Each of these venues has different bars and hosts different DJs to suit the needs of all visitors. Shag dancing enthusiasts also enjoy the fact that OD Beach & Golf Resort is home of the Shagger’s Hall of Fame!

With the slogan “the biggest little bar in town,” it’s no wonder that OD Pavilion Arcade & Lounge is a hotspot for shag events. This venue is complete with a café, bar, dance floor, games, live entertainment, and much more.

Arrrrgh mateys! Have a blast with any SOS event at Pirate’s Cove! Located on Main Street, Pirate’s Cove Rooftop Bar is a popular spot among locals and shaggers visiting from out of town. Shaggers at Pirate’s Cove can enjoy the rooftop bar and entertainment area where anyone can get a beautiful view of the beach.
