Fat Harold’s Beach Club

Head on over to Fat Harold’s Beach Club and take a trip back in time. This North Myrtle Beach establishment is a beach-music dance club that has been serving the area since 1962. While the business has moved locations several times, it has been calling downtown North Myrtle Beach home for years.

While Fat Harold’s Beach Club serves delicious food, it is best known for being the hub for all shag dancers. Shag dancers of all ages and abilities flock to Fat Harold’s Beach Club throughout the year to listen to beach music and have a good ol’ time. This institution is also known for hosting shag festivals as well as famous Society of Shaggers events.

The atmosphere at Fat Harold’s Beach Club is relaxed and friendly, just like it was back in the day when founder Harold Bessent (a.k.a. the King of the Shag and The Fat Man) opened the place. He passed away in May 2015, but his personality still lives on through the thriving beach club that he established.

Whether a live beach band is playing, or if the jukebox is bumpin’, the dance floor at Fat Harold’s Beach Club is always open. And, once you’ve worked up an appetite, you can always snack one a burger, hot dog, fries, wings, or a fried bologna sandwich from the Shag City Grill.
